Summer Seminar Series

Community Groups have taken a break for the summer, but there's still opportunity for some good teaching, discussion and fellowship... the Summer Seminar Series!

This course is based on the video series "Global Gospel in a World of Religions," and also comes with a workbook for each participant. Each week we'll focus on a different world religion or philosophy. We'll learn about its basic tenets and beliefs, its writings and scriptures, and how it differs from the Christian faith.

Each Wednesday evening for 8 weeks we'll meet at the church from 7:00 to 8:30. There will be a short video, followed by discussion and prayer.

This promises to be a very helpful, very practical time for anyone who has ever struggled to interact with or respond to someone with a worldview or philosophy other than Christianity.

With this seminar series, we hope to equip ourselves:

  • to be able to address objections to the Christian faith and to the Bible;
  • to be able converse respectfully and intelligently with people who do not share our faith;
  • to be able to raise thought-provoking questions to our non-believing friends, to get them to ponder the reasons for why they believe the way they do.

Hope you'll plan to join us!

Join us for worship on Sunday! Here's what's happening...

We're continuing in our sermon series on the book of Genesis. The series is called "Roots of Our Redemption," in light of the repeated instances in the book of Genesis in which we see God repeatedly showing his love and mercy to his children in redemptive act after redemptive act. Of course, God's most dramatic and most important act of redemption was sending his only Son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of the world. But as Genesis has shown us, God's plan to save us from our sin began long before Jesus appeared on the scene. Exciting stuff!

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this morning.

Sermon: TBA
Scripture text: Genesis 23 (The Death of Sarah)

Our worship services also include lots of singing, prayer, reading of Scripture, and fellowship time. Dress is casual. Hope to see you Sunday!

Summer Seminar Series

(see some more details about this course in June 20th calendar entry)

Join us for good teaching and discussion on how the Christian faith compares to other religions, philosophies and world views. Each week we'll look at a different world religion and discuss how we might present the Gospel to someone coming from the perspective of this religion or point of view. We hope and expect this to be a very educational, helpful and practical series on how to share our faith with people of all backgrounds.

We'll start at 7:00 with a 25-30 minute video, and then have some teaching and discussion.

Meets on the first floor of Ruggles Baptist Church.

Hope you can join us!

Join us for worship this Sunday! Here's what's happening...

We're continuing with our sermon series on the book of Genesis. The series is called "Roots of Our Redemption," because even way back in the first book of the Bible we see so many ways in which God was already showing grace and forgiveness to his children-- the same grace and forgiveness whose ultimate expression would be the death of his Son Jesus Christ on the cross, to save us from sin and conquer death forever.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this week. Pray for him as he prepares the message.

Sermon: TBA
Scripture text: Genesis 22

Our worship services also include the following:

  • lots of praise songs, led by our awesome Worship Team;
  • several times of corporate prayer;
  • hearing Scripture read aloud for our encouragement and edification;
  • time to hang out and get to know each other over coffee and snacks.

Hope to see you Sunday!

Join us for worship this Sunday! Here's what's happening...

We're in a sermon series entitled "Genesis: Roots of Our Redemption." As we've been reading through this first book of the Bible together, we've learned that the God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament-- which means that the same God who sent a flood to destroy the earth, and sent fire and brimstone to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, is the same God who sent his only Son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of the world. Can God's love and mercy co-exist with God's wrath and judgment? The more we study the book of Genesis, the more we see the answer to that question is, YES. Not only can these seemingly contradictory aspects of God's character co-exist, they are inextricably and necessarily linked.

This week Pastor Josh will preach God's word to us. Pray for him as he studies and prepares what he will say, and pray for all of us who will hear the message, that we would be open to it.

Sermon: TBA
Scripture text: Genesis 20

Our worship services also include lots of singing (worship songs and hymns, led by our awesome worship team), times of prayer (including praise, confessing our sins, receiving God's grace and forgiveness, thanksgiving, and intercession), hearing Scripture read aloud, and time to get to know each other over coffee and snacks.

We'll also share the Lord's Supper together, obeying Jesus' instructions to "do this in remembrance of me."

Hope to see you Sunday!

Join us for worship this Sunday! Here's what's happening...

We're currently working our way through the book of Genesis. This sermon series is entitled "Roots of Our Redemption."

It has been exciting each week to uncover more of God's plan to save us from our sin, even thousands of years before Jesus Christ entered the world. We have realized during our study of Genesis that even way back in the beginning of his relationship with us, God in his great mercy and love had a plan to redeem us and bring us back into a relationship with himself, despite our stubborn rebellion and sin.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us.

Sermon: TBA

Scripture text: Genesis 18:16-33, and chapter 19.

We will also sing worship songs together, have several times of corporate prayer, hear Scripture read aloud, and enjoy some fellowship time over coffee and snacks.

Hope to see you Sunday!

Join us for worship on Sunday! Here's what's happening...

We're continuing with our sermon series on the book of Genesis. This series is called "Roots of Our Redemption," because the story of our salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ doesn't start in the New Testament. All the way back in the first book of the Bible we see God, in his love and compassion for his children, planning to redeem us from sin.

This week we'll continue with the story of Abraham and Sarah, and God's promise to them to be the parents of many nations. How will God fulfill his promise to this elderly couple that is well beyond child-bearing years?

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us. Pray for him as he prepares the message.

Sermon: TBA

Scripture text: Genesis 18:1-15

Our worship services also include singing worship songs, several times of corporate prayer, hearing Scripture read aloud, and lots of time to get to know each other over coffee and snacks.

Join us for worship this Sunday! Here's what's happening...

Today we'll resume our study of the book of Genesis. In this study, we've seen how God's plan for the redemption of his people through the sacrifice of his Son Jesus, was in motion even way back in the earliest stages of his relationship with us. Long before Jesus is even mentioned in Scripture, God's plan to save us from sin and to bring us to himself is clear. That's why this sermon series is called "Roots of Our Redemption."

This week Pastor Josh will preach from Genesis 17. Take a few minutes to read this chapter before Sunday. And don't forget to pray for our time together, and for Pastor Josh as he prepares his message.

Our worship services also include lots of singing, prayer, the reading of Scripture, as well as time to get to know each other over coffee and snacks.

We'll also celebrate the Lord's Supper together. As we eat the bread and drink the juice, these symbols of Jesus' broken body and shed blood remind us of his great love for us, and of the assurance of our forgiveness.
