During the summer mission trip, we serve together, with Group Work Camps Foundation (www.groupworkcamps.com). The purposes of the teen summer mission trip are to:
- Deepen our relationships with God
- Serve others in need
- Meet other teen believers from around the country (we are not alone)
- Bond as a youth group
- Have cross cultural experiences as we serve, worship and bond
- Have fun!
For a number of years, we have participated in week long summer camps with Group Workcamps Foundation, an interdenominational worship and service-oriented organization dedicated to deepening teen relationships with God, and service for people in need. During the week of camp, we do painting and light construction, such as building wheel chair ramps and repairs for residents at or below the poverty line in a variety of communities. Recent trips have taken us to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana, the Ute Reservation in Utah, the town of Cuba, New Mexico and Washington, New Jersey. As a result of these short term mission trips, we have seen God at work in ourselves and in the lives of the people we have served….to say nothing about the fun we have experienced as a group!

Jeff Bass is the Executive Director of the Emmanuel Gospel Center, which equips the urban church in Greater Boston for effective community ministry. EGC seeks to understand how God is at work in the city, using applied research to discern the places where the Church can make the most difference, then teaching, training, networking and equipping Christian leaders in these places through its various programs. At EGC, Jeff is responsible primarily for the strategic direction of the ministry, including leadership development, program development and fundraising. Jeff and his wife Ellen moved to Boston in 1981 and became members of Ruggles during Pastor Showalter’s first year, and Jeff was on the Ruggles staff from 1987 to 1991. Jeff and Ellen are members of River of Life Church in Jamaica Plain (a dual Ruggles church plant), live on Mission Hill land purchased from Ruggles in 1986, and have two grown children, David and Peter.
