Good Friday Service

This is a solemn service in which we remember the events of the day when Christ was arrested, tried, beaten and crucified in order that our sins might be forgiven and we might be able to come near to God.

We depart the sanctuary in silence, but also in anticipation of Easter Sunday, when together we will celebrate Christ’s resurrection, and his victory over sin and death.

Today we’ll wrap up our study of the book of Revelation. Pastor Josh will preach the word to us. Pray for him as he prepares his message this week.

Join us after the service on the 2nd floor for an informal Q&A session on the book of Revelation. It’s a book full of confusing imagery and visions, so it can be difficult to understand exactly what is being said. Write down your questions, and they will be addressed as fully as possible.

Also, pick up a copy of the book Revelation for You, a helpful resource we’ve been using during this series. We have about 10 copies left, at a cost of $10 each, or whatever you are able to pay.

Hope to see you Sunday!

We’re on Week 5 of a 6-part sermon series called “What We Believe.” It is intended to help us establish a firm grasp on the foundational aspects of our faith. We spent the first two weeks of the series looking at what it means to be a Christian. Last week and this week, the topic is, what does it mean to be evangelical?

The pastors and elders of Ruggles Baptist Church have been spending the last several months working on a Statement of Faith which we hope to approve as a congregation very soon. Our current sermon series, “What We Believe,” has been helpful in teaching/reminding us of the Scriptural principles and truths that make up our faith in Jesus Christ.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us.

We’re continuing with our sermon series entitled “What We Believe.” This week we’ll talk about what it means to be evangelical.

It is important for us to understand what we believe— not only as our church looks toward adopting a Statement of Faith, but also as we live our lives and interact with others who ask about our faith in Jesus Christ. It is always a valuable exercise to revisit the question, why do we believe the things we believe?

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this week. Pray for him as he prepares his message.

Worship Service (First Sunday of Advent)

This is the first Sunday of Advent.

Our Advent sermon series is called “Longing”; our text is Isaiah 9:1-7.

Isaiah was a prophet, and much of his prophecies focused on the coming of the Messiah: how we would recognize him, what he would accomplish. All of Israel— indeed, the entire world— longed for the day when God would send His Chosen One.

In Isaiah 9, Isaiah gives us a glimpse of what it will be like when our longing is fulfilled and the Messiah comes. Among other things, he will fulfill our longing for light, joy, victory, peace and justice. Christmas, of course, is the time when we celebrate the coming of the Messiah— Jesus Christ.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this morning.

Sermon: Longing for Light
Scripture text: Isaiah 9:1-2

We’ll also celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, following Christ’s command to “do this in remembrance of me.”.

Join us this Sunday as we listen in on a real honest, heart-to-heart conversation between God and Jonah… about anger, compassion, mercy and more!

This Sunday we’ll continue with our sermon series on the book of Jonah. This series is called “Discovering the Depths of God’s Grace,” because the story of Jonah shows us, among other lessons, that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love and mercy: not the wicked Ninevites, not the pagan sailors with whom Jonah traveled, and not Jonah himself. Even while he was stubbornly running away from the Lord, Jonah was being lovingly and relentlessly pursued by God.

Today we’ll continue our sermon series on the Old Testament book of Jonah. The series is called “Discovering the Depths of God’s Grace,” because the story of Jonah’s life is not just an incredible adventure; it is also a story of the Lord relentlessly pursuing Jonah, showing love and grace to him despite Jonah’s disobedience and stubbornness. The story of Jonah is a reminder to us that we worship a God who loves us more than we can possibly comprehend, and who will do anything (anything!!) to bring us to himself.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us.

This week we begin a 5-week series on the book of Jonah. It’s called “Discovering the Depths of God’s Grace.”

Jonah is not about the fish. There is a fish in the story, of course, but this little book is really about God--and us. This is one of the most riveting, shocking, and penetrating narratives in all of Scripture. It shows us the depth of our brokenness and the even greater depths of God's grace.

We’ll dive in head first this Sunday, as Jonah's flight away from God raises the question for us: What happens when God's command contradicts our own deepest desires?

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us.

Sermon: “Saying No to God”
Scripture text: Jonah 1:1-3

Of course, our worship services also include lots of singing, times of corporate prayer, hearing Scripture read aloud, and some time to hang out after the service over coffee and snacks.
