Join us for worship this Sunday! Here's what's happening...

We are in the penultimate week of our summer sermon series on the New Testament book of Philippians, a letter written by the Apostle Paul, from prison, to one of his beloved churches. The series is called "Forward," because the book is all about encouraging us to move forward in all aspects of our faith.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this morning. He says this: "You might look at the news and wonder if our world isn't "going to hell in a hand basket," so to speak. But God's word for us this Sunday is that we should rejoice in the Lord always - no matter what circumstances come our way! How do we experience this kind of durable joy? That's what this Sunday is all about."

Sermon: "Forward in Joy"

Scripture passage: Philippians 4:4-9

As always, our service will also include singing lots of worship songs, times of corporate prayer, hearing Scripture read aloud, and time to hang out and get to know each other a little better.

Hope to see you Sunday!

We're in Week 9 of our summer sermon series: "Forward: A Journey through Philippians."

This week James Marohn will be preaching the word to us.

The gist of this week's Scripture passage (Philippians 3:1-11) is that there isn't anything we could pursue, accomplish or wish for ourselves in this life that is more significant or valuable than knowing Christ. We will also look at what that means: to know Christ. I hope you'll be challenged and encouraged as a result of the time we spend looking at these verses!

Sermon: "Forward in Knowing Christ"

Scripture passage: Philippians 3:1-11

As always, our time together will also include lots of singing, prayer, hearing Scripture read aloud, and time to get to know each other (and snacks!).

Hope to see you Sunday!

We'll continue in our sermon series called "Forward: A Journey through Philippians."

This week's passage is Philippians 1:27-30. It says,

"Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have."

Let's look at this and try to understand it together!

We'll also celebrate Communion together.

And, as always, our worship service will include lots of singing, prayer, reading of Scripture, and time to hang out and get to know each other.

Hope to see you Sunday!

Ruggles Baptist Church was incorporated on May 24, 1878. Every year, the closest Sunday to that date is Vision Sunday.

  • It is a day for us to praise God for His faithfulness to us as a congregation, and to look ahead to what He is calling us to be and to do in the city of Boston.
  • It is a day to re-commit to our vision statement: Inviting Boston and beyond into a life-changing relationship with Christ and his church.

We'll be wrapping up our study of the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis this week. Our sermon series is called "Roots of Our Redemption," and it's all about how even from the earliest stages of God's relationship with humans, He has been actively and relentlessly loving us, despite our rebellion. It has been an eye-opening revelation of God's love and grace.

This week Pastor Josh will preach from Genesis 11:10-12:8. This is the beginning of the story of Abraham. Pray for Pastor Josh as he prepares the message.

This Sunday is also Mother's Day-- but at Ruggles we call it Women's Day. It is a day for us to honor all the women of our congregation for all that they contribute to the life of this church. If you come to worship with us this Sunday and you are a woman, you'll receive a flower, and be our guest of honor at the refreshment table after the service.

Join us for worship on Sunday! Here's what's happening...

We're in Week 12 of our series called "Roots of Our Redemption." It's a study of the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis. Thus far in this series we've seen, in no uncertain terms, that the Lord Almighty is determined to love us, despite our rebelliousness and sinfulness-- so much so that He even went so far as to send His Son Jesus Christ to be the atonement for our sins (that comes later in the Bible, but we see lots of foreshadowing of it in Genesis!).

This week's story is about Noah and his sons-- but there's no ark, no animals two-by-two, no flood. This is a little-known episode in the life of Noah, and frankly, it might make us a little uncomfortable. We'll read about getting drunk, taking one's clothes off, voyeurism, and family curses. But despite all the dysfunction, we'll still see clear evidence that God's plan of redemption shines through!

James Marohn will be preaching. Pray for him as he prepares the message.

Our worship services also include:

  • plenty of singing together, led by our awesome Worship Team;
  • several times of corporate prayer;
  • hearing Scripture read aloud;
  • time before, during and after the service to get to know each other;
  • good snacks!

Hope you can join us to lift up the name of Jesus together!
