"What Did You Expect?" Marriage Conference

Almost everyone enters into marriage, or hopes to enter into marriage, with high expectations. But it doesn't take long to realize that your marriage has not escaped the reality of sin or the brokenness of the world. In this conference we'll see that a healthy marriage is rooted not in romance but worship.

This conference is for you if:

  • You're single and want to learn about the realities of marriage.

  • You're newly married or preparing for marriage in the near future.

  • You've endured conflicts and struggles in your marriage.

  • You've have been complacent or "on autopilot" in your marriage for many years.

  • You feel that you have a healthy marriage and want to continue to grow.

Cost: $10 (cash, check, or Venmo to the church), which includes all materials, breakfast, and lunch. Sign up at the Connect Table on Sunday!

This week we’ll start our fall sermon series on the Old Testament book of Esther. Esther is the only book in the Bible in which God is never mentioned. Where was God during this time in history? As we study this book together over the next several weeks, we’ll see that God is never far from us, even when he seems hidden…

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us. Pray for him as he prepares the message he will give us, and pray for us, that we might receive it with joy and with moldable hearts.

Sermon: TBA
Scripture text: Esther 1

We’ve been studying the book of James all summer, finding it to be both challenging and practical. Every passage of this book focuses on a different aspect of living out our faith, but the common theme throughout each section is “do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22)

This week Pastor Josh will preach the word to us. Pray for him as he prepares his talk. And pray for your own heart, that you will be ready to receive what God has for you, how you might need to grow and change in response to this passage.

Sermon: TBA
Scripture passage: James 5:13-18 (read the passage a few times before Sunday to familiarize yourself with what it says)

We will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, in obedience to Jesus’ command to “do this in remembrance of me.”

Hope to see you Sunday!

We’re in the home stretch of our summer study of the New Testament book of James. Each week we’ve been confronted with a different area in which James challenges us to live out our faith, instead of just paying lip service. This week’s passage is no different: James encourages us to be patient in times of suffering.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us. Pray for his study and preparation, that God will give him a good and helpful message to speak.

We’ve been studying the New Testament book of James this summer, and this Sunday we begin the last chapter of the book. The sermon series is called “Faith That Works” because James challenges us not to just talk about our faith, but to show it by our actions.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us. Pray for him as he prepares his message, and for us as we listen. May the Holy Spirit help us grow closer to Jesus, and cause us to become more like him in how we treat each other and live out our faith in this world.

Our study of the book of James continues. Since the beginning of this book, we have been repeatedly challenged to examine ourselves to be sure that our faith in Jesus Christ is not superficial, but alive and effective. Each week has been a much-needed spiritual “gut check”!

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this week. Pray for him as he prepares what he will say, and for everyone who will hear it, that we might receive it with joy, and make every effort to incorporate it into our lives, however difficult it might be.

Sermon: TBA
Scripture passage: James 4:13-17

Our worship services also include several times of corporate prayer, lots of worship songs (led by our awesome Worship Team!), hearing Scripture read aloud, and time to hang out after the service to get to know each other a little better.

Hope to see you Sunday!

We’ve been in a summer sermon series on the New Testament letter of James. It has been an immensely practical series, and very challenging too. James’ style is very confrontational, as he exhorts us not to simply talk about our faith, but to accompany it with actions and good works.

This week Pastor Josh will preach the word to us. Pray for him as he prepares the message, and for us as we prepare to hear it and put it into practice.

Sermon: TBA
Scripture passage: James 4:1-12

We will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, in remembrance of Christ’s loving sacrifice on our behalf.

We’re studying the book of James together this summer. Our sermon series is called “Faith That Works.” The tone of this book is very challenging and blunt; James tells us that a faith that doesn’t cause us to take action or live differently is useless and dead. Each week we see a different area of life to apply God’s truth.

This week is no different… in this passage, James is talking about two kinds of wisdom: earthly wisdom, which comes from bitter envy and selfish ambition (and is actually not wisdom at all, but folly), and Godly wisdom, which comes from humility, and produces peace and love in our relationships with each other.

Which kind of wisdom do you have?

James Marohn will preach the word to us. Pray for him as he prepares what he will say, and for us as we listen and apply the teaching.

We’re continuing in our summer sermon series on the New Testament book of James. This is a very practical, challenging, “in-your-face” letter from James to his friends in the church, and to us as followers of Jesus Christ today. Over and over again, James implores us not to simply know things about Jesus, or even to agree with the truth about Jesus… but to put our faith into practice, and let it affect how we live our lives and how we treat each other.

This week we welcome guest preacher Ronald Wagogo, a member and deacon of Tremont Temple Baptist Church. Please pray for Ron as he prepares his message, and ask the Holy Spirit to prepare our hearts to receive the word with joy.

EMPTY New Testament Conference

Interested in learning and understanding the redemptive narrative of the New Testament through five major periods: Expectations, Messiah, Pentecost, Teaching, and Yet-To-Come? Key events, people, and biblical books will be placed in their historical and theological context, and you will learn how the Old Testament narrative finds its fulfillment in the New Testament. The acronym for the entire Bible is CASKET EMPTY, which points to the empty tomb of Jesus as the center of God's plan of redemption in the Bible.

Ruggles Baptist Church, and Symphony Church, both of Boston, MA, will host the half day conference, which will be taught by Dr. David Palmer (author of EMPTY, Senior Pastor of Kenwood Baptist Church in Cincinnati, OH, and Adjunct Professor of New Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), and the event is open to the public. Registration is $10 and includes a light breakfast, which will be served at 8:30am, before the conference begins.

This is a solemn service in which we remember the events of the day when Christ was arrested, tried, beaten and crucified in order that our sins might be forgiven and we might be able to come near to God.

We depart the sanctuary in silence, but also in anticipation of Easter Sunday, when together we will celebrate Christ’s resurrection, and his victory over sin and death.
