This Sunday we’ll wrap up our sermon series called “Lost & Found.” Our Scripture text for this series has been Luke 15, in which Jesus tells three parables about lost items— a sheep, a coin, and a son— to illustrate God’s love for us, his relentless pursuit of us, and his joy when we are brought home to him.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this week.

EMPTY New Testament Conference

Interested in learning and understanding the redemptive narrative of the New Testament through five major periods: Expectations, Messiah, Pentecost, Teaching, and Yet-To-Come? Key events, people, and biblical books will be placed in their historical and theological context, and you will learn how the Old Testament narrative finds its fulfillment in the New Testament. The acronym for the entire Bible is CASKET EMPTY, which points to the empty tomb of Jesus as the center of God's plan of redemption in the Bible.

Ruggles Baptist Church, and Symphony Church, both of Boston, MA, will host the half day conference, which will be taught by Dr. David Palmer (author of EMPTY, Senior Pastor of Kenwood Baptist Church in Cincinnati, OH, and Adjunct Professor of New Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), and the event is open to the public. Registration is $10 and includes a light breakfast, which will be served at 8:30am, before the conference begins.

Good Friday Service

This is a solemn service in which we remember the events of the day when Christ was arrested, tried, beaten and crucified in order that our sins might be forgiven and we might be able to come near to God.

We depart the sanctuary in silence, but also in anticipation of Easter Sunday, when together we will celebrate Christ’s resurrection, and his victory over sin and death.

Also, pick up a copy of the book Revelation for You, a helpful resource we’ve been using during this series. We have about 10 copies left, at a cost of $10 each, or whatever you are able to pay.

We’re on Week 5 of a 6-part sermon series called “What We Believe.” It is intended to help us establish a firm grasp on the foundational aspects of our faith. We spent the first two weeks of the series looking at what it means to be a Christian. Last week and this week, the topic is, what does it mean to be evangelical?

The pastors and elders of Ruggles Baptist Church have been spending the last several months working on a Statement of Faith which we hope to approve as a congregation very soon. Our current sermon series, “What We Believe,” has been helpful in teaching/reminding us of the Scriptural principles and truths that make up our faith in Jesus Christ.

We’re continuing with our sermon series entitled “What We Believe.” This week we’ll talk about what it means to be evangelical.

It is important for us to understand what we believe— not only as our church looks toward adopting a Statement of Faith, but also as we live our lives and interact with others who ask about our faith in Jesus Christ. It is always a valuable exercise to revisit the question, why do we believe the things we believe?

10:00 AM10:00

Worship Service (First Sunday of Advent)

This is the first Sunday of Advent.

Our Advent sermon series is called “Longing”; our text is Isaiah 9:1-7.

Isaiah was a prophet, and much of his prophecies focused on the coming of the Messiah: how we would recognize him, what he would accomplish. All of Israel— indeed, the entire world— longed for the day when God would send His Chosen One.

In Isaiah 9, Isaiah gives us a glimpse of what it will be like when our longing is fulfilled and the Messiah comes. Among other things, he will fulfill our longing for light, joy, victory, peace and justice. Christmas, of course, is the time when we celebrate the coming of the Messiah— Jesus Christ.

Pastor Josh will preach the word to us this morning.

Sermon: Longing for Light
Scripture text: Isaiah 9:1-2

We’ll also celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, following Christ’s command to “do this in remembrance of me.”.
